NASTAR Ski Race and Lunch. NASTAR is the acronym for the NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public recreational grassroots ski racing program in the world.
Developed in 1968, NASTAR provides a fun, competitive and easily accessible recreational ski racing program that, through the use of a handicap system, allows skiers of all ages and abilities to compare themselves against their friends, family members and the U.S. Ski Team, regardless of when and where they race.
The Aspen Retinal Detachment Society holds an annual NASTAR race at the Spider Sabich Race Arena in Snowmass followed by an on-mountain picnic at the Spider Sabich Picnic Cabin. At the ARDS Closing Dinner, trophies are presented to racers in age and gender categories
